Diana wolf-whistled at me - Le Bon

(Monday June 25, 2007 03:04 PM)

Duran Duran star Simon Le Bon has told how he was wolf-whistled by Princess Diana.

The singer, who is performing at the Concert for Diana at the weekend, said the experience left him red-faced.

He told the Radio Times magazine: "She and I used to go to the same
fitness club - Chelsea Harbour in London. One day I was on the running
machine. I jumped off because one of my shoelaces had come undone, and
she wolf-whistled at me across the room, and yelled, like a brickie,
'Nice legs! I'd recognise that bum anywhere!' I was quite taken aback,
actually, and quietly got back on the machine with a red face."

Le Bon was speaking in advance of Duran Duran's performance at the concert marking the 10th anniversary of the Diana's death.

The English National Ballet is also performing on Sunday, and
soloist Daniel Jones recalled: "On the day that her divorce came
through, she came to see us.

"There were thousands of photographers and camera crews outside,
but she came over and spoke to me and my then girlfriend. She was
talking about what we ate, relationships and keeping in shape.

"There was one Valentine's Day where she turned up with a huge
heart-shaped cake and sat eating it with everybody ... She just wanted
to have a gossip."

Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, who is putting together a musical medley
for the concert, said: "Whenever I met Princess Diana - and I did meet
her on several occasions - all those usual words jumped into my head -
grace, poise, elegance and charm. But there was something else...
something behind her eyes. Something that was difficult to evaluate.

"As a composer of musical theatre and drama, I like to think I'm
pretty good at understanding people. But I never really felt that with
her. The eyes said something I didn't understand."

Status Quo's Rick Parfitt said he had dinner with the Princess
several times after meeting her at Live Aid in 1985. He said: "There
was no stiff upper lip, no airs and graces. It was like she was just
the girl next door. The language would sometimes get a bit risque when
she was around, but she didn't seem to mind. I always thought of her as
one of the lads."
